Earlier today, doing my daily browse of news stories, I came across a curious story on BBC News online, about an artist who manipulates chewing gum on street pavements into miniature paintings. It is a strange way of making art, but at the same time a rather curious one.
Im often doodling, drawing random pictures and images or letters faces, anything… Well I applied one of my better doodles to the Swatch watch face, just for fun, and I am quite pleased with the result, hence my post. see what you think…
Create a unique watch design – express your creativity using the online design tool and a classic Swatch as your canvas. You could win an art-filled trip to Shanghai and VIP tickets to the China World Expo 2010.
I got to say I was a bit disappointed that I would be restricted to their own design tool. I thought I could create some kind of illustration on place that on the watch for the competition. So anyways I created my own simple, but smart looking patterned design for the Swatch watch.
Found a really cool typeface, that is free, and its hard to find a free typeface that is worthy a download, I found it by chance while looking for other things, Its not a brand new typeface created in 2009, and there are similar ones out there like it, but I just liked the feel of it, quite a creative curvy fun type, which is good for graphic t-shirts and logos etc. and is free from fontfabric A bit aboutFontfabric, it is an independent type foundry , which was launched at the end of 2008 by designer Svetoslav Simov who is based in Sofia, Bulgaria. Font details: Format: Opentype (.otf) Compatible: PC & Mac Details: 215 Character Set, Manual Kerning, Tracking / Pairs Price:Free
Actually I have recently added it to my own logo type and feel it works well.
Everything is gearing up for the world cup in South Africa, It seams most think England will get past the first stages of the world cup, lets hope so, and alot of brands are in support of them, some ad’s for england are pretty good like the KitKat TV Ad : ‘Cross Your Fingers’ a nice play on words. And some are not as successful like the Carlsberg TV ad, which has been labeled as probably ‘Not’ the best team talk ever, and personally in my opinion lacks the inspiration and determination that could evoke the spirit of England, and the desire to win the world cup. Unlike previous Carlsberg Ad’s, the best of which featured the best players England has had, some of the greats, managed by the late Bobby Robson, another great manager.

On another note Nike have a nice ad Nike : Write the Future, featuring Wayne Rooney as a bloated has been, posing the question of what might have been…

I also spotted a cool link from another blog, referring to world cup wall posters by DJ DSL . It’s a nice cartoon illustration, take a look…
D&AD Channel, which showcases ideas, and inspiration from the creative world, using the YouTube medium. The channel, is said to be a good source for ideas, ‘real eye openers’ and inspirational stuff. I know I rarely browse YouTube, but with something like this its definitely worth a look…
